About Masjid al-Imam al-Bukhari

This small mosque in the Bada'ah district, a few minutes' walk north-east of Masjid al-Nabawi, is named after Imam Muhammad ibn Isma'il al-Bukhari (d. 256 AH), the compiler of Sahih al-Bukhari. Al-Bukhari stayed in Madinah as a young man, and he said that he wrote his great book on the narrators of hadith, al-Tarikh al-Kabir, there beside the grave of Nabi Muhammad ﷺ on moonlit nights. The mosque is a white building in the traditional Madinah style, with arched windows and a slender minaret, standing among tall hotels on Abu Dharr al-Ghifari Street near the north-eastern side of the Haram. It offers a quiet place to pray a short way from the crowds.
