The Mas'a market was one of the most important markets of old Makkah. Its shops lined the way between al-Safa and al-Marwah, running north to south parallel to the course of the sa'y, and part of it was known as the perfumers' market. At Eid al-Fitr tents were put up here and the shops stayed lit through the night. The shops were cleared when the Mas'a was rebuilt as part of Masjid al-Haram in the twentieth century. Their site lies along the present Mas'a, about 120 to 250 metres north-east of the Ka'bah.
