This fort was built in the reign of King Abdulaziz on a rise above the port town of Duba, a station of the coastal pilgrim road from Egypt. It served as a government post watching over the town and the coast. The stone fort stands near the old centre of Duba, overlooking the harbour. It is one of the sites of the Egyptian Hajj Road, which Saudi Arabia has placed on UNESCO's Tentative List.
