Sayyida Fatimah bint Asad of the Banu Hashim was the wife of Abu Talib and the mother of Sayyiduna Ali, Ja'far and Aqil. She cared for Nabi Muhammad ﷺ as a mother from the age of eight, when he came to live in her husband's house. She accepted Islam and emigrated to Madinah, where she died in about 4 AH. The Prophet ﷺ shrouded her in his own shirt and led her funeral prayer. Her grave is honoured in the north-east of al-Baqi', beside the graves of Sa'd ibn Mu'adh and Abu Sa'id al-Khudri. The graves here are level with the ground and marked by low stones.
