Abu Bakr al-Siddiq, the closest companion of Nabi Muhammad ﷺ and the first caliph, passed away in 13 AH after leading the Muslims for a little over two years. At his request he was buried in the room of his daughter Sayyidah A'ishah, beside the grave of the Prophet ﷺ. The room now lies beneath the Green Dome within Masjid al-Nabawi. Visitors greet him as they pass in front of the chamber after greeting Nabi Muhammad ﷺ, on the route from Bab al-Salam to Bab al-Baqi'.
