Mai Lado, a lady of the Mughal period, built this mosque and a madrasa in the midst of her estate and gardens outside the Walled City. She and her husband are buried in the courtyard of the mosque. The mosque stands at the busy crossing of Chamberlain Road behind Mayo Hospital, near Gawalmandi and the camera market. It remains a well-used neighbourhood mosque.
