Hiran Minar is a tower and water tank built by the emperor Jahangir at Sheikhupura, about 40 km north-west of Lahore. The tower was raised in memory of his pet antelope, and the tank, with a pavilion at its centre, was added under Shah Jahan. A causeway leads across the tank to the octagonal pavilion. The grounds are a popular picnic spot with boating on the water, while the tower itself is usually closed to visitors.
