Known locally as Khutwat Awn, this maqam at al-Sharish in the al-Nashwa area honours Sayyiduna Awn ibn Ali ibn Abi Talib. It marks a place associated with him, and the people of the surrounding villages come here to pray. Al-Sharish lies north of Basra, on the road towards al-Qurna, about 6 km south-east of the confluence of the Tigris and Euphrates at al-Qurna.
