Known as Khutwat al-Imam Ali ibn Musa al-Rida, this maqam in Tannuma honours Imam Ali al-Rida, the eighth of the Imams of the Prophet's ﷺ family, who is remembered in Basra for passing through the region on his journey from Madinah to Khurasan around 200 AH. He is buried in Mashhad, and several places in southern Iraq mark his route, among them the Maqam of Ali al-Rida in the Ashar district across the river. The maqam and its mosque stand on Street 4 in Tannuma, in the Shatt al-Arab district on the east bank of the river, opposite the Corniche. It is used for daily prayers and visited by people of the district.
