Isa was a son of Abd al-Qadir al-Jilani and studied law and the other sciences with his father in Baghdad. After his father's passing he lived for a time in Damascus and then settled in Egypt, where he preached, taught and gave fatwas, and trained many Egyptian students. He wrote Jawahir al-Asrar wa Lata'if al-Anwar on Sufism and passed away in 573 AH; the historian Ibn al-Najjar recorded reading his tombstone in the Qarafa. His shrine stands among the lanes of the Qarafa in al-Khalifa. Visitors say it lies a short walk from the map pin, so it is worth asking in the cemetery for the maqam of Sidi Isa.
