Sidi Abu al-Qasim al-Tahtawi is buried in the old mosque of Tahta, known simply as the ancient mosque. The family of Rifa'a al-Tahtawi, the great scholar of the nineteenth-century revival, descends from him. The mosque has a fine brick minaret and wooden inscriptions and keeps an old library. It stands in the centre of Tahta and has been closed for repairs in recent years.
