Abydos is one of the most important sites of ancient Egypt, and its temple of Seti I is known for some of the finest carved reliefs in the country, including the Abydos King List. It lies on the edge of the desert near al-Balyana in Sohag and is often visited on a day trip from Luxor together with Dendera.
