Sidi Muhammad ibn Ahmad, known as al-Farghal, was born in the ninth century AH in the village of Bani Sami' near Asyut. He was a descendant of the Prophet ﷺ who spent his youth as a shepherd in contemplation and prayer and became the great saint of the area. His mosque in Abu Tig is the largest in the town and a registered monument, and it has been restored in recent years.
