Abd al-Khaliq al-Shabrawi was born in 1887, a descendant of the Prophet ﷺ through his mother and of Umar ibn al-Khattab through his father. He memorised the Qur'an as a boy, earned the Alimiyya of al-Azhar in 1914 and taught there, and his preaching at the al-Fath Mosque in Abdeen made it a centre of learning. He was shaykh of the Khalwatiyya Shabrawiyya and passed away in 1947; his son Mustafa, a Shari'a judge, succeeded him. His mosque and shrine stand on Salah Salem Street, and the shrine of the Naqshbandi master Muhammad Amin al-Kurdi is beside it.
