The complex of Sultan al-Ashraf Inal was built in the Northern Cemetery between 1451 and 1456. It grew from a domed tomb for the sultan into a group of buildings with a madrasa-mosque, a khanqah for Sufis and a sabil. Its minaret rises about twenty-five metres in three stages, and the domes and long walls stand out across the cemetery. Restoration began many years ago and has continued in stages. The complex lies near the tomb of Qansuh Abu Sa'id and the complex of Barsbay.
