Muhammad Amin al-Kurdi was born in Erbil in the second half of the thirteenth century AH. He made the pilgrimage, taught in the Prophet's ﷺ Mosque in Madinah, and came to Egypt out of love for the Ahl al-Bayt, where he studied and taught at al-Azhar and spread the Naqshbandi path. He is best known for Tanwir al-Qulub, a book on belief, law and the purification of the soul that is still widely read. His shrine stands beside the al-Shabrawi mosque on Salah Salem Street.
