The fortress above Ljubuški, known as Herceguša, was a medieval stronghold of Herzog Stjepan Vukčić Kosača. After the Ottoman conquest it was kept as a garrison fort guarding the routes of western Herzegovina. The walls and towers have been partly restored, and archaeological work continues on the site. A road and footpath lead up from the town, entry is free, and the fortress is one of the best places in the area to watch the sunset over the Ljubuški plain.
