Sira Castle stands on the rocky island of Sira, which guards the old harbour of Crater in Aden. A fortress has stood here since at least the time of the Zurayid dynasty in the twelfth century, and it was used in turn by later rulers of Aden, the Ottomans and the British. A road now links the island to Crater, and a stepped path leads up to the castle walls and towers, with wide views over Crater, the harbour and the sea. Entry costs a small fee.
