Al-Aydarus Mosque is the mosque of Sayyid Abu Bakr ibn Abdullah al-Aydarus al-Adani (851–914 AH), the Ba-Alawi scholar and Sufi who settled in Aden and is honoured as the patron saint of the city. He founded the first mosque here in 899 AH and is buried under its dome alongside other scholars. The mosque has been rebuilt and enlarged several times, and today has a white minaret and domes set against the volcanic hills of Crater. Every year in Rabi' al-Thani people gather in Aden for the visitation of al-Aydarus, and the mosque is known for its old carved wooden door.
