Sayyiduna al-Abbas ibn Abd al-Muttalib was the uncle of Nabi Muhammad ﷺ, only a few years older than him, and was known in Makkah for his generosity and for providing pilgrims with water from Zamzam. He joined the Muslims openly around the time of the Conquest of Makkah and settled in Madinah, where his house stood right beside the Prophet's ﷺ mosque. When Umar ibn al-Khattab enlarged the mosque, the house of al-Abbas was needed for the expansion, and after the matter was settled between them al-Abbas gave it freely for the sake of the mosque. Its ground has been part of Masjid al-Nabawi ever since. Sayyiduna al-Abbas passed away in 32 AH and was buried in al-Baqi'.
