This small shrine marks the place where, according to the accounts of Karbala, the right hand of Sayyiduna al-Abbas was cut off on the day of Ashura in 61 AH, as he carried water from the river towards the camp of Sayyiduna al-Husayn. It stands a short walk north-east of the shrine of Sayyiduna al-Abbas, and pilgrims usually visit it together with the shrine of his left hand.
