This small shrine marks the place where, according to the accounts of Karbala, the left hand of Sayyiduna al-Abbas was cut off on the day of Ashura in 61 AH, as he tried to carry water back to the camp of Sayyiduna al-Husayn. It stands in the old streets a short walk from the shrine of Sayyiduna al-Abbas, and pilgrims usually visit it together with the shrine of his right hand.
