Dar al-Wali, the house of the governor, was the residence of the Ottoman governors of Baghdad, with their households, stables and gardens. It stands behind the old Ottoman Saray in the Qishla complex, near Maidan Square and Bab al-Mu'azzam, and was also known as Dar al-Harim. The house covers about a thousand square metres and is built around a traditional Baghdadi courtyard looking out over the Tigris. The heritage authorities have been restoring it, and it can be seen together with the Qishla and the clock tower nearby.
