This maqam on the Euphrates is dedicated to al-Khidr, the righteous servant of Allah whom Nabi Musa met and travelled with, and the town of al-Khidr in Muthanna takes its name from it. It is one of the best-known of the many shrines to al-Khidr in Iraq and stands in the town, south-east of Samawah.
