This shrine near Afak is honoured as the grave of Sayyid Muhammad, known as al-Aris, the bridegroom, a descendant of Sayyiduna al-Abbas ibn Ali. Local accounts remember him for his courage, and say he was killed in battle and that his body lay where he fell for more than a day before he was buried. The shrine stands on the Al Budayr road outside Afak, east of Diwaniyah, and is open day and night.
