This maqām is attributed to Sharīfa, a daughter of al-Ḥasan ibn ʿAlī al-Mujtabā, and has been venerated in the Ḥilla region for centuries under the names al-ʿAlawiyya Sharīfa and Ṭabībat al-ʿAlawiyyīn — the Physician of the ʿAlids — in recognition of the many accounts of healing associated with the site. Tradition holds that she was a young child who passed away during the march of the captives between Kufa and Damascus after the events of Karbala. Muḥammad Ḥarza al-Dīn records the site in Marāqid al-Maʿārif as an ancient place of visitation, well known in the villages of the area for generations as the grave of al-ʿAlawiyya Sharīfa bint al-Ḥasan . The maqām began as a small dome in the 1940s and has been gradually developed through donations from pilgrims in Iraq and abroad. A new ḍarīḥ was installed in 2021.
