This shrine is honoured by local tradition as the grave of Awn, a son of Sayyiduna Ali ibn Abi Talib. Little about him is recorded in the early sources. It stands on the road named after him in the al-Tali'a area, between Hillah and Diwaniyah. The road to it is not well signposted, so visitors may need to ask for directions.
