Imam Ali al-Hadi (212–254 AH), also called al-Naqi, was the tenth Imam of the Ahl al-Bayt in Shi'a belief. He was brought from Madinah to Samarra, then the Abbasid capital, by the caliph al-Mutawakkil and kept there under watch for the rest of his life. He passed away in 254 AH and was buried in his house. His son Imam al-Hasan al-Askari was later buried beside him, and the two Imams, known together as al-Askariyyayn, lie under one great golden dome.
