Abu al-Faraj Abd al-Rahman ibn al-Jawzi (510–597 AH / 1116–1201) was a Hanbali scholar of Baghdad, a famous preacher whose sermons drew huge crowds, and the author of a great many books, among them the history al-Muntazam, Sifat al-Safwa and Sayd al-Khatir. Late in life he spent five years in exile in Wasit before returning to Baghdad. His domed tomb on the Rusafa side of Baghdad is visited today by those who know him through his books.
