Sayyid Abu al-Tayyib Tahir is honoured at this shrine near Bab al-Shaykh as a descendant of Imam Musa al-Kazim. Local accounts relate that he was a scholar and a man of worship, and that his grave lay forgotten for centuries until it was uncovered during work on an old cemetery, when the inscription on its stone identified him. The shrine has been rebuilt in recent years and is open to visitors through the day. It stands in the old heart of Rusafa, close to the shrine of Shaykh Abdul Qadir al-Jilani and the mosques of the Bab al-Shaykh quarter.
