This takiyya, a Sufi lodge with its own school, was founded by Sayyid Muhammad ibn Sulayman, known as Abu Khumra al-Hindi, a shaykh of the Rifa'i way whose family traces its descent to the Prophet's household ﷺ. His tomb is inside the lodge, which is still looked after by his descendants. It stands directly behind the shrine of Shaykh Abdul Qadir al-Jilani in Bab al-Shaykh. Visitors come from across Iraq, and many take water from the basin inside the shrine for its blessing.
