Abdullah al-Mahd was a son of al-Hasan al-Muthanna and a grandson of both Imam al-Hasan and Sayyiduna al-Husayn, and he was the head of the Hasani family in his time. When his sons Muhammad al-Nafs al-Zakiyya and Ibrahim refused to give allegiance to the Abbasids, the caliph al-Mansur imprisoned him with many of his relatives at al-Hashimiyya, where he passed away in 145 AH. This shrine honoured as his grave stands in open country near al-Shinafiyya, in the south of Qadisiyyah. The site is spacious and peaceful.
