Wadi Qandil is a sandy beach north of Latakia, where the wooded mountains of the coast come down to the Mediterranean. It is one of the region's favourite summer swimming spots, known for clear water and a quieter setting than the beaches near the city. The water is deep and the waves can be strong, so it suits confident swimmers better than small children. Boats can be taken out along the coast, and the road from Latakia continues north towards Ras al-Bassit.
