The Bazar Mosque stands in the old market quarter of Latakia on Sayf al-Dawlah Street. Local tradition holds that it was built on the site of the city's first mosque, founded by the Companion Ubadah ibn al-Samit when the Muslims took Latakia, and it was also known as the Mosque of the Tithe, as market dues were once collected here. The present building shows simple Ottoman features and remains a busy place of prayer for traders and shoppers in the souq.
