Souq al-Surujiyya, the saddlers' market, runs beside the northern side of the Citadel of Damascus, just outside the old city wall. As its name suggests, it grew up around the making of saddles and harness for horses and pack animals, a trade that still carries on here. Its shops sell saddles, riding gear and natural leather goods, alongside workshops making tents and awnings. It is not to be confused with Souq Saruja, the neighbouring quarter to the north, and lies a short walk from the Citadel and the head of Souq al-Hamidiyya.
