Bab al-Faraj is one of the gates in the northern wall of Old Damascus. It was opened by Nur al-Din Zangi and rebuilt in the Ayyubid period, and its name means the Gate of Relief. The gate leads from the old city near the Citadel of Damascus into the al-Manakhliyya market, the old quarter of craftsmen and hardware sellers outside the northern wall.
