About Ma'arrat al-Nu'man Museum (Khan Murad Pasha)

The museum of Ma'arrat al-Nu'man occupies Khan Murad Pasha, a large Ottoman caravanserai built in the sixteenth century by Murad Chalabi, an official of the Ottoman treasury. As its foundation inscription records, it was built as a rest stop, inn and free kitchen for travellers and wayfarers. The khan houses one of the largest collections of Roman and Byzantine mosaics in the Middle East, from the ancient villages of the region.
