Khan Jaqmaq is a Mamluk caravanserai built in the early fifteenth century by Sayf al-Din Jaqmaq, the Mamluk governor of Damascus, who also founded the Jaqmaqiyya madrasa beside the Umayyad Mosque. Like the other khans of the old city, it housed merchants and their goods around a central courtyard. The khan stands in the commercial district south of the Umayyad Mosque, near Souq al-Bzouriyah, the Hisham ibn Ammar Mosque and Medhat Pasha Souq. Its old stone facade and gateway can be seen from the lane, and it is still used by traders.
