Sayyiduna Aws ibn Aws al-Thaqafi (RA) was a Companion of Nabi Muhammad ﷺ from the tribe of Thaqif. He later settled in Damascus, where historical accounts mention that he maintained a residence and mosque in the area known as Darb al-Qali. He narrated several hadith, particularly concerning the virtues of Jumuʿah, purification before the Friday prayer and sending blessings upon Nabi Muhammad ﷺ. He was also remembered for his worship, simplicity and detachment from worldly life. His grave is located within the historic Bāb al-Ṣaghīr Graveyard in Damascus, opposite the former al-Ṣābūniyyah Madrasa and near the grave of Sayyiduna Bilal ibn Rabah (RA). The grave has been known and visited for centuries and bears an inscription identifying him as Aws ibn Aws al-Thaqafi, Companion of Nabi Muhammad ﷺ. Historical biographical works occasionally confuse him with another Companion, Aws ibn Abi Aws al-Thaqafi, but the Damascene tradition specifically associates this grave with Aws ibn Aws.
