About Garden of the Poets

The Jardín de los Poetas, or Garden of the Poets, is a landscaped space within Córdoba’s Parque Cruz Conde, created to honour the city’s rich literary legacy. Inaugurated in the 1960s, the garden features busts and statues of some of Córdoba’s most celebrated poets and writers across history. Among those commemorated are figures from the Islamic golden age of al-Andalus, including Ibn Hazm (994–1064), author of The Ring of the Dove , and Ibn Zaydun (1003–1071), renowned for his love poetry and relationship with Wallada bint al-Mustakfī. Their presence in the garden highlights Córdoba’s role as a centre of Arabic poetry, philosophy, and literature during the Umayyad and taifa periods. The Jardín de los Poetas thus serves not only as a tranquil green space for reflection but also as a memorial to Córdoba’s intellectual and artistic heritage, linking the city’s modern identity to its classical Andalusí culture.
