About Ghuraba' Hospital

The Hospital of the Strangers and the Poor stood on the eastern side of Masjid al-Haram. Its inscription recorded that it was built in 1086 AH under the Ottoman Sultan Mehmed IV. When Ibrahim Rifat Pasha visited it in 1901 it had two doctors, a pharmacist and about fifty beds, and its medicines were sent from Istanbul while its food came from the government of Makkah. The building no longer stands. Its site, about 295 metres north-east of the Ka'bah, has since been built over by the enlarged Haram and the buildings around it.
