Al-Shara'i' Cemetery lies in the al-Shara'i' district on the north-eastern edge of Makkah, beneath the surrounding hills. It is one of the main cemeteries of the city today, and many pilgrims who pass away in Makkah during Hajj and Umrah are buried here. The graves are simple mounds marked with low stones and laid out in numbered blocks, so that families can find the resting places of their relatives. The cemetery office stands at the entrance, and visitors come to greet the dead and pray for them.
