Ali Mardan Khan was a Persian noble who entered Mughal service under Shah Jahan and became governor of several provinces. He was a noted builder, credited with the canal that fed the Shalimar Gardens, and he died in 1657. His tomb is a tall octagonal domed building with a gateway in front of it in Mughalpura, east of the city. It stands within the railway workshops, and visits may need permission.
