About Saving Iraqi Culture Monument

The Saving Iraqi Culture Monument is one of the last works of the sculptor Mohammed Ghani Hikmat, commissioned in 2010 as one of four sculptures for the city and completed by his son after his passing in 2011. It shows a huge Sumerian cylinder seal, broken and toppling, held up by many hands and arms, inscribed in cuneiform with the words "Writing began here". It stands in a small garden by the entrance to Zawra Park in Mansour, close to the Iraqi Plastic Artists Society and the Baghdad Zoo.
