About Qadiriyya Library

The Qadiriyya Library is the library of the Gaylani complex at Bab al-Shaykh, beside the grave of Shaykh Abdul Qadir al-Jilani. It took its present form in 1954, when the sons of Sayyid Abd al-Rahman al-Gaylani, the naqib of Baghdad, endowed his books to the shrine, and it has grown since with later gifts. It is one of the richest heritage libraries in Iraq, with a large collection of rare manuscripts, among them old copies of the Qur'an, alongside tens of thousands of printed books on Qur'anic studies, hadith, law and the Arabic language. It is part of the Gaylani mosque complex and is used by readers and researchers.
