This maqam of Nabi Yunus stands within the al-Hamra mosque in Kufa, near the Euphrates. The mosque is one of the oldest places of prayer in the city, going back to the time of Sayyiduna Ali, and takes its name from the Hamra, one of the communities of early Kufa. A narration attributed to Imam Ali connects the place with Nabi Yunus, and local tradition holds that he passed through and prayed here. His grave is honoured in Mosul. The mosque and maqam were rebuilt and reopened in 2018 as a modern complex with two domes, two tall minarets, a large prayer hall and a garden courtyard, with the maqam under its own dome. It is a short drive from the Great Mosque of Kufa and the shrine of Muslim ibn Aqil.
