This grave is honoured as that of Tahir, a son of Imam Muhammad al-Baqir, the fifth Imam of the Ahl al-Bayt and grandson of Sayyiduna al-Husayn. It is one of the graves gathered in the shrine of Salman al-Farisi at al-Mada'in. His remains were moved into a new tomb in the shrine in the early 1930s, at the same time as those of Hudhayfa ibn al-Yaman, and the grave now lies between those of Salman and Hudhayfa. The shrine is about 30 km south-east of central Baghdad, near Taq Kasra.
