Sayyid Nur al-Mubarqaʿ, also known as Sayyid Nur ibn Ismaʿil, was a revered Sayyid associated with the al-Tayyib region of Maysan in southern Iraq. He is remembered in local genealogical tradition as an ancestor of the Al Nur families of the region, whose lineage is traditionally traced through the Ahl al-Bayt to Imam Musa al-Kazim. The precise intermediate genealogy varies between sources, and is therefore best regarded as a traditional family attribution. Sayyid Nur became an important figure in the religious and social memory of the communities of Maysan, and his descendants established a notable presence across southern Iraq. He came to be known by the title al-Mubarqaʿ (المبرقع), meaning "the veiled one" or "one who covers his face,” a traditional epithet preserved alongside his name.
