About Grave of Abu al-Fadl, Zayd ibn Musa al-Kazim

The Shrine of Abu al-Fadl is one of the established places of ziyarah in the city of al-Diwaniyah. Local tradition commonly identifies its occupant as Zayd ibn Imam Musa al-Kazim, known as Zayd al-Nar, and the shrine is consequently also known locally as the Shrine of Ibn al-Kazim and Sab‘ al-Diwaniyah. Zayd was a son of Imam Musa al-Kazim and an Alid figure who became prominent during the political upheavals of the early third century AH. The precise identity of the person buried at the shrine, however, is disputed. While local and official Iraqi sources commonly attribute it to Zayd al-Nar, another genealogical tradition identifies the occupant as Abu al-Fadl Yahya, a later descendant of Zayd ibn Musa al-Kazim. The site itself is an established historic shrine and place of ziyarah, but its exact burial attribution should therefore be regarded as traditional rather than conclusively established.
