The palace of the amir Taz was built in 1352 for one of the leading amirs of the reign of Sultan Hasan. It is one of the few Mamluk palaces left in Cairo. Rooms with painted wooden ceilings open onto a courtyard garden, and the palace has been restored and is now a cultural centre with exhibitions and events. It stands on Suyufiyya Street, off Saliba Street near the Shaykhu complex.
